Celebrating the written word with Bangalore Literature Festival 2014

You don’t have to fake illness, kill your relatives, or organize Satya Narayan Puja every four days – all you do is plan ahead and ‘claim’ the leave. I claimed mine, recently, and how! On 26th September, Friday (that’s right a weekday), I along with my fellow bloggers from Music Malt reached the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Electronics City, sharp at 10. ‘Why’ you ask? To attend the Bangalore Literature Festival and have an audience with the who’s who of the literary world. About 30 kilometres North East of Tawang, the lake is also known as Madhuri Jheel named after the famous Bollywoodfilm star Madhuri Dixit. While scourging for music and what would be appropriate for this time of the year (Autumn… there are quite a number of songs on autumn), it suddenly hit me that September is ending. And the first song that came to mind was ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’. Kind of appropriate, right? Though I really like the official video of this song, yet I stayed clear from the video-theme (American war scenario after the September 11 attacks) while making this artwork. Instead, I attempted at creating a collage of memories between a father and a son and how much the latter misses his dad. The song was originally written in memory of lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong’s father. I wondered why in one phrase of the song, the lyrics said “Seven years have gone so fast” and in another phrase, it said “Twenty years has gone so fast”. Turns out, Billie Jo

— by Jim Ankan Deka | Bangalore Agrasen Run 2014, Bangalore (photo - Jim Ankan Deka)  Agrasen Run 2014 was organised by Agarwal Samaj Karnataka, a body of the Agarwal community in Bangalore, to support the cause of child safety and to promote the child helpline no 1098. Started at BSNL gate (next to Press Club of Bangalore) in Cubbon Park, there were 3.8 KM marathon for the 8th to 10th standard students and a fun run of 1.4 KM for all ages.
